System knowledge and work
Why can native contacts improve employment chances?
About the project
Networks as pathways to labour-market knowledge
Knowing how a labour market works includes formal information about vacancies and qualifications as well as informal knowledge about expectations, procedures and effective job-search strategies.
This project links ego-centred network data to unemployed migrants’ knowledge of the Dutch labour market. It asks whether contacts with native-born people provide system knowledge that can improve employment opportunities, and under which conditions those network resources become useful.
